Inshore fishing is very popular in the nearby waters. Flounder fishing begins the season and is the mainstay for anglers thru most of the summer months. Sometimes bluefish arrive around the same time and can provide fast action for opportunistic anglers. As the waters warm, a host of species enter the inshore waters and become a possible catch. Inshore fish can include gray trout, also known as sea trout, spot, croakers, porgies, pigfish, sea bass, sharks, cobia, sheepshead, black drum, red drum and others. The variety of fish continues thru the seasons, with catches of trout, red drum and striped bass increasing as the water cools.
Local areas to fish could fill volumes and the area cannot be completely explored in a lifetime. The structure includes narrow creeks, muddy flats, sandy shallows, grassbeds, deep channels, back bay areas, the inlet area and of course, the Atlantic Ocean.
Some anglers are equipped to venture outside the inlet. Inshore fishing can include near-shore structure off the coast. A myriad of shoals, sleughs, channels, shipwrecks and artificial reefs may hold numerous species of fish throughout the season.
