IMPORTANT FEDERAL REGULATIONS FOR ALL ANGLERS REGARDLESS WHAT STATE YOU FISH!!!

As of January 1, 2010, the NEW National Saltwater Angler Registry was launched by the Federal Government which requires all anglers in the United States to call each year and register. The purpose of this program is hopefully to build a accurate and complete "phonebook" to contact anglers in order to obtain "catch" information directly from the angler. Registration can be done by calling a toll free number (1-888-674-7411) or on-line at www.CountMyFish.noaa.gov. Anglers will need to provide their name, date of birth, address, phone number and the regions where they intent to fish. You will NOT be restricted to fishing only in those areas and will not have to register separately for each region where you do fish. Currently there is no fee nor charge for this registration thru the year 2011, after that an annual registration fee of $25.00 will apply. Those exempted from these requirements are anglers under the age of 16, anglers fishing on a licensed charter, party or guide boat, anyone holding a Highly Migratory Species Angling permit or a commercial fishing permit. Remember this is a FEDERAL requirement.. You must STILL obtain a valid STATE fishing license if the state you are fishing requires one. In Virginia, you must have a fishing license.
